The basement of the Old North Church is crowded with relics from its 227-year past. Behind these brick walls are 37 tombs containing the remains of more than 1,100 Bostonians. Over the years, the tombs were emptied and swept out to make more room (and more money for the church.) Today, one tomb may contain the remains of hundreds of people. (Jake Whitman)
