Klyuchevskaya Volcano, the largest and most active volcano on the eastern peninsula of Russia, has been erupting periodically since its first recorded activity in 1769. But on Feb 15, 2005, eruptions became increasingly violent, prompting officials to raise the volcanic alert to its highest level. Molten lava from the ongoing eruption has even caused the Ehrman glacier to melt, and may be responsible for the snowy rivers near the volcano's base. (NASA)
