Falcon HTV-2 Hypersonic Plane Loses Control in Mach 20 Test

The U.S. military said it launched a hypersonic test aircraft called the Falcon HTV-2, which reached speeds of 13,000 mph, but lost control after about nine minutes of flight and, they believe, crashed in the Pacific Ocean. The drone was designed to reach Mach 20 -- or 20 times the speed of sound -- and could travel between Los Angeles and New York in just 12 minutes.
