The rovers landed in early 2004 on Mars, and were only expected to last 90 days in the cold Martian environment. They've survived more than three years. This image was made by Spirit, which arrived on Jan. 3, 2004. Engineers have sent it to this region, nicknamed the Columbia Hills, after the space shuttle astronauts who died in 2003. (NASA)
