Final Frontier: Space Pictures From Far Reaches of the Universe
A beautiful prominence seen shooting from the face of the sun by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory. The flare is composed of hot, electrically-charged gases. This particular one was not coming in the direction of Earth, so satellites were safe and there were not large new auroras near the poles. (NASA/GSFC/SDO)
