Annie Hesse has lived a life as outsized as a Greek epic. The globetrotting photographer shot punk concerts in the '70s, rode a freighter from New Orleans to Casablanca, and spent a year hitchhiking through Africa. Like Hall, Hesse has limited vision and relies on her camera to do most of her seeing. "The world spins by awfully fast, and I obviously have a craving to soak it all up. With my vision the way it is, I can't absorb it. So the camera does it for me." (?? by the artist, courtesy of UCR/California Museum of Photography)
