Country music star Gretchen Wilson, who sang of being a "Redneck Woman," has taken on the challenge of going back to high school.
Gretchen Wilson: School was something that, like most kids, I really thought I didn't need. As I got older, I thought, "Well, I'm going to be a big country singer someday, so what is this going to matter?" … I just knew by the time I hit about 14 or 15 that I wanted to get out there and kind of start my own life.
I never had regrets until I had a child, and then I started realizing how important that was, how slim the chances were of my dream really coming true. And where would I be right now if they hadn't come true [with] what kind of an education I have? And I wouldn't really be anywhere. I'd probably be pouring drinks, just like I was before I got the record deal.
I want my daughter to think I'm smart. When she's going through these test problems that she has in the upcoming years and she has a question, I want to be able to help her.
It's not un-doable, so I hope that a lot of adults will find the strength to go back there and to fulfill that dream on their own for themselves.
Wilson is hoping to strike a deal with her local high school: If they'll let her march in the graduation, she'll play for free at the prom.
