THE SAHARA DESERT, EGYPT:
A seven day, 250 kilometer footrace through the Sahara ended in front of Egypt's Giza Pyramids on Nov. 1, 2008. Athletes were given water and a campsite each night but carried all their equipment and food. A total of 143 competitors battled heat and sand to finish Sahara Race 2008.
