State fairs are all about the food, especially those that come on a stick. This year, the Minnesota State Fair is debuting camel on a stick. Yes, camel.

Jamal Hashi, owner of the Safari Express food stand, said camel is a cherished delicacy back in his home country of Somalia. He imports the meat from Australia, where the animals are farmed. Hashi compares the flavor to bison. He says it's a lean, high-protein meat without any gamey taste.

Napkins anyone? We never said eating at a state fair wasn't messy.

The organizers of the State Fair of Texas hold an annual contest among fair concessionaires to find the tastiest and creative new foods. This year, one of the top entries was deep-fried beer. On Labor Day each year, the finalists are narrowed down to two which are allowed to be sold at the fair.

Beer isn't the first beverage to be fried up. Here's a past winner: deep-fried Coke.

Another scrumptious treat: deep-fried smores. Why not fry everything up, right?

Thanksgiving may be more than a month away but at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas, anyone can enjoy a hot, smoked, juicy turkey leg -- even if it's only mid-October!
