If you're looking to create Instagram gold, consider these quirky destinations, all of which lend themselves to inspired, if unusual, selfies.

Races at The Shell Factory in Fort Myers, Florida:This novelty retail store and nature park overflows with entertainment for visitors of all ages to the Fort Myers & Sanibel area. With more than 380 live animals in natural habitats, the Shell Factory is both educational and exciting--you can cuddle up to creatures and take in hermit crab races. Thrillseekers are not forgotten, however. Check out the hurricane simulator, Bumper Boat Lagoon, or Water Wars for more hands-on fun.

Roadtripping in South Dakota:It's a bird, it's a plane... No, wait, it's definitely a bird. Roadtrippers heading down Highway 37 to Huron in South Dakota, can't miss the world’s largest pheasant perched along the route. Standing 28 feet tall and weighing 22 tons, the fiberglass and steel structure pays tribute to not only South Dakota's state bird but also the pheasant hunting tradition rooted in the region.

You'll definitely want to pull over for a photo opp. Also a can't-miss is The World’s Only Corn Palace, in Mitchell, an hour away. The building’s facade is redecorated each year with themed murals made from thousands of bushels of corn, grains, and native grasses in 13 shades.

Falconry in Rancho Palos Verdes, California:Escape from the Hollywood types in L.A. with a nature-centric trip to Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes. The Pointe Discovery activity center features a unique attraction, not often found at other hotels: falconry lessons.
