Historic Tavern on the Green Becomes Visitors' Center

Once among the most glamorous spots to eat in the city, the bankrupt Tavern closed last year and sat empty for several months before opening as a Central Park visitors center. Celebrities may no longer be flocking to the famed Crystal Room, now demolished, but the center, which opened Oct. 15, is proving to be a restful spot for many tourists to buy New York souvenirs and learn about the park.
