Undertow at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Calif. Northern California's only spinning roller coaster opens at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. . It starts with a 40-mph downhill, sideways drop. Undertow uses individual cars each holding four riders, with each pair of riders facing opposite directions, so you may be staring at the ground or up at the sky, depending on seat.
