— -- Allegiant Air is adding yet another destination to its service from Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.

Grand Rapids, Mich., will become Allegiant's 17th direct-service destination from the Mesa airport beginning Oct. 14, the company announced Tuesday.

The carrier, which continues its expansion at Gateway and across the nation, announced last week that it will start service from Gateway to Grand Island, Neb., a community of 46,000 in the heart of the Cornhusker State. That service also will begin on Oct. 14.

With introductory fares as low as $89 each way, Allegiant will provide service to Grand Rapids' Gerald R. Ford International Airport on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The non-stop flights will depart Gateway at 1:30 p.m. and arrive in Grand Rapids at 7:55 p.m. Flights from Grand Rapids will leave at 8:35 p.m. and arrive at Gateway at 9:25 p.m.

Allegiant is expected to add at least one city to it service from Gateway, the airport's executive director, Lynn Kusy, told Gateway's governing board on Monday.

Allegiant has not yet identified the destination.

Allegiant also added 13 new routes (Phoenix-Mesa is not among them) to its newest base at Los Angeles International Airport and seven routes across the country, ending June with 134 routes between 71 cities.
