If you're looking for a place to paddle your canoe, ride your mountain bike, dive, fish or climb, Outside magazine is recommending the Great Lakes.

The magazine's August issue lists seven places for outdoor adventure in Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin and Ontario. They are:

—Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, in Wisconsin, on Lake Superior's southwest shore, for kayaking. The lake also borders Canada's wild Pukaskwa National Park.

—The Jordan River in Michigan, where you can fly-fish for trout.

—Thunder Bay in Ontario on Lake Superior, known as a destination for diving to explore shipwrecks.

—Tettegouche State Park, in Minnesota, 60 miles from Duluth, on Superior's North Shore, for hiking (to Palisade Valley Overlook), climbing (on Palisade Head), and kayaking from Silver Bay to the mouth of the Baptism River.

—Kettle Moraine State Forest, in Wisconsin, with hills for ambitious mountain bikers, including a 10-mile loop called Blue.

—Killarney Provincial Park in Ontario, where you can hike in the La Cloche Mountains, sail on Lake Huron's Georgian Bay, or stay at the Killarney Mountain Lodge, a wilderness resort.

—Algonquin Provincial Park, three hours north of Toronto, where you can canoe and hike in the wilderness.
