Ex-Budget Director's Daughter Died of Accidental Fall, Not Knife Slash

Aug. 28, 2012— -- The daughter of a prominent investment banker and former New York City budget director died of a traumatic fall down marble steps, and not a knife-slashing, according to the New York City Medical Examiner.
Carlisle Brigham, 29, was found dead in an apartment building Monday with a gash on her neck, leading police to open an investigation into her death. Today, however, an autopsy by the Medical Examiner's office ruled that Brigham's death was accidental, and that her injuries were "consistent with a fall down the stairs."
Her official cause of death was blunt impact injuries to the head and neck, according to the department. A spokesman for the police department said the ME's report, which ruled out foul play, would end the investigation into Brigham's death.
Brigham is the daughter of James Brigham, who served as the New York City budget director and head of the city's Public Development Corp. in the 1970s and 1980s, and is now an investment banker in St. Louis.
James Brigham and his wife, Holly, did not return calls for comment today from ABC News.
Brigham was found unresponsive in the stairwell of the building around 11 a.m. Monday, and was declared dead shortly after at Beth Israel hospital, according to the NYPD.
Brigham was staying in the apartment of a friend at the time of her death, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The NYPD would not comment on the identity of the person with whom Brigham was staying.
Brigham married Anthony Champalimaud, a vice president of a hotel firm, in August 2011 at a boarding school near Newport, R.I., that Champalimaud had attended, according to a wedding announcement in The New York Times.
Brigham worked at the American Museum of Natural History from 2007 until April.
