May 03, 2014— -- Authorities in California are searching for a fire battalion chief suspected of killing his fiancee, then going on the run.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office named Orville "Moe" Fleming as a suspect in the murder of 26-year-old Sarah Douglas.

"We are extremely proficient at tracking fugitives," said Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones.

"He's a chief," said Douglas' aunt, Trina Werly. "He was supposed to be the one that helps people."

Werly said a phone call may have caught Douglas' final moments alive.

"Then she screams blood-curdling screams and the phone went dead," she said.

When Werly went to Douglas' home Thursday morning, she said she found her face down and blood everywhere. Police said Douglas was stabbed to death.

Fleming's department-issued pickup truck was found abandoned more than two miles away, according to police.

"It was reported that the neighbors saw him cleaning his truck and packing it," said Werly.

Fleming, 55, was a 24-year veteran of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, police said. Douglas' family said he always seemed too controlling.

"She was such a good person [but was] looking for love in the wrong place," said Werly.
