— -- Heavy rainfall throughout the night in south-central Kansas led to flash flooding and many school closures today.

In Wichita, up to 10 inches of rain fell overnight, and flash flooding has continued throughout this morning. In addition, thousands of people in the area are without power because of gusty winds.

Flash flood watches and warnings were issued for Kansas and Missouri this morning, as more rain is forecast for the area today.

Schools in Mulvane, Clearwater, Douglass, Belle Plaine and Rose Hill were canceled on Friday because of flooding, ABC News affiliate KAKE-TV reported. Flooded streets cause problems for schools and make it difficult for buses to transport students.

The Wichita Fire Department warned citizens not to attempt to drive through flooded roadways.
