Hicks tried to have the sex tape taken off the Internet, but authorities say once a video like that is posted in multiple places, it can be nearly impossible -- and very costly -- to take down. Websites are rarely held legally accountable for hosting videos. Usually only the person who posts them is.

Hicks' daughter, Pamela, 16, is now watching her mother try to rebuild their lives. Soraida Hicks has changed her name, which ABC News is withholding. She is weeks into a new job.

"My mom didn't give up ... and I'm so proud of her, and I love her so much," Pamela Hicks said.

For Kathleen Stimon, the money, sex tape and cyber harassment weren't the biggest blow.

"He'd been weaving quite a web of lies and deceit with me for many, many months," she said. "That was the betrayal and was the thing that hurt the most."
