Feb. 1, 2014— -- Michigan police are looking for a woman who they say is a person of interest in the case of human remains found in garbage bags on a snowy highway.

Police from the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office have released a surveillance photo of the woman, who was driving a gray SUV.

The case began when a passerby contacted officials Thursday about a "suspicious package," police said. Inside garbage bags along two roads in China Township, Mich., police found human remains.

Police said the deceased was a white male and that an autopsy would be performed later this week.

"We are treating this incident as a homicide," Sheriff Tim Donnellon said in a statement. "We are asking for the public's help to solve this crime."

According to police, a witness said they had seen a heavy-set woman in a SUV dump what they believed to be garbage at the side of the road.

On Friday police officials said they found another garbage bag full of charred paperwork and clothing that they believed might be related to the suspected murder. They later released pictures of a woman driving a gray SUV, who they wanted to question about the incident.

Police are urging anyone with information to call (810) 985-8115.
