— -- Newly declassified audiotapes have revealed that Apollo 10 astronauts heard “outer-space” music as their spacecraft flew around the far side of the moon in 1969.

Audiotapes of astronauts Eugene Cernan and John Young discussing the music-like sound have been made public on the Science Channel series, "NASA's Unexplained Files."

During the 1969 mission, the astronauts were on the part of the moon furthest from Earth, where no one from NASA could see or hear them.

The audiotapes reveal the pair discussed what they described as a “whistling sound” and called it “weird music.”

“Sound like, you know, outer-space type music,” one of the astronauts can be heard saying.

The transcripts were archived and held for the past four decades before being unearthed by "NASA's Unexplained Files."

One NASA technician believes the music was caused by the radios of two different spacecraft interfering with each other.
