  • Skeletons In The Closet: An Unnatural Look at a Natural History Museum

Photographer Klaus Pichler caught a glimpse of the Vienna Museum of Natural History's storage rooms through a basement window, and was hooked. It also led to a set of photographs examining the still-life arrangements that occur behind closed doors.

Pichler notes that the storage areas follow a strict scientific classification system, but there are still opportunities for animal interaction unseen in the halls of the museum beyond them.

"Their creation is determined by the need to find space-saving storage solutions for the preservation of objects," Pichler says of the museum pieces he has photographed.
