It began with a report of a fatal shooting on the morning of April 16, 2007 on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, Va. Two students had been shot inside a dormitory. Two hours later, a troubled student responsible for the first killings opened fire inside Norris Hall, a busy academic building. Thirty-two students and faculty were killed before the gunman fatally shot himself in what was the largest single school shooting in American history. (Matt Gentry/The Roanoke Times/AP Photo)
