Wedding Bells Ring for California's Same-Sex Couples
Del Martin, left, and her partner, Phyllis Lyon, became the first officially married same-sex couple in California. Martin, 87, and Lyon, 84, were married in a private ceremony at City Hall officiated by San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom. On May 15, the California Supreme Court ruled to overturn a 2000 ballot initiative banning same-sex marriages.
