Del Martin and Phyllic Lyon, who have been together for more than half a century, were one of thousands of couples issued wedding licenses in 2004 by Mayor Gavin Newsom, before the California Supreme Court voided the licenses later that year. The couple was again one of the the first same-sex couples to marry after the state Supreme Court's decision officially took effect after 5 p.m.
