Police would not elaborate about what the connection was.

— -- One of the sports cars caught on video drag racing through the streets of Beverly Hills has been "connected" to Sheikh Khalid Hamad Al-Thani of Qatar, police said.

Cops would not elaborate on that statement, only saying that the sheikh was "connected" to the yellow Ferrari seen on tape speeding through the tony neighborhood, blowing through stop signs and narrowly missing pedestrians on the residential streets.

Videos posted on Instagram and YouTube show the Ferrari and a Porsche 911 GT3 using residential streets as racetracks on Saturday. Police say they were approached by someone claiming to own the cars who not only denied driving recklessly, but also claimed diplomatic immunity.

Beverly Hills Police Chief Dominick Rivetti said it was "unlikely" the drivers of either car had diplomatic immunity, and it is against federal law to claim diplomatic immunity if you do not have it. Rivetti said the U.S. State Department has been in contact with the Qatari Consulate regarding the matter.

It’s believed the Qatari sheikh has left the country, police said.

The Beverly Hills Police Department is hoping witnesses will step forward to help identify the drivers.

Officers were unable to arrest or issue citations at the time of the incident because under California State law, misdemeanor crimes must be witnessed by an officer, and no police were present until the incident was over.
