Jack LaLanne, American exercise guru, was often called the "Godfather of Fitness." A self-proclaimed junk food junkie as a child, LaLanne grew into an ambassador for healthy living. He opened one of the nation's first gyms, hosted a popular fitness television show from 1951 to 1985, invented a handful of exercise machines, and published many books and videos. He died on Jan. 23, 2011, at 96. (George Rose/Getty Images)
