Oct. 4, 2013 — -- quicklist: 1title: Meg Ryan in the Spotlight for Lying Low

text: What has America's sweetheart Meg Ryan been up to lately? She has actually been staying out of the spotlight, which is putting her back in the spotlight this week. Ironic, no?

The "When Harry Met Sally," "You've Got Mail" and "Sleepless in Seattle" star is on the cover of this week's People magazine, which goes "inside her new life."

It seems that Ryan, 51, has mostly been walking around New York City coordinating outfits with her boyfriend-rocker John Mellencamp, 61, and spending time with her 8-year-old daughter, Daisy.

It sounds to Social Climber like she is wisely choosing to just enjoy her life and family, but we wouldn't mind one more iconic rom-com, especially if Tom Hanks is in it, too.

quicklist: 2title: Famous Filibuster-er Wendy Davis Running for Texas Governortext: Texas Democratic state Sen. Wendy Davis announced her bid for the governor's office Thursday.

You might remember her as the woman who became a household name after her marathon 13-hour filibuster in June against a controversial abortion bill. Davis had to stay on topic the whole time and did so while rocking these pink sneakers.

quicklist: 3title: Kate Upton Suits Up for Sports Illustrated Covertext: Two-time Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover model Kate Upton is gracing the magazine's cover again, but this time in a baseball uniform.

Upton, 21, bares much less than usual on the cover of this week's issue. She poses between Atlanta Braves' brothers B.J. and Justin Upton (no relation to Kate).

The cover marks the first time a swimsuit model has appeared on the magazine's weekly cover, according to Sports Illustrated.

We're sure the guys didn't mind.

quicklist: 4title: Tropical Storm Karen Weakenstext: Tropical Storm Karen is still on the move, but has weakened today and isn't forecast to intensify to hurricane strength, according to the National Hurricane Center.

But that doesn't mean beach days are in the cards for people in the Gulf Coast. The storm is still predicted to intensify again Saturday and hit the coast with heavy rain and storm surges.

Tropical storm warning and watches are in effect from Florida to Louisiana and the storm is expected to make landfall Saturday.
