Nov. 14, 2013 — -- quicklist: 1title: South Dakota Farmers Unhappy With Joan Jett Pick for Macy's Floattext: Hell hath no fury like ... scorned South Dakota farmers and ranchers? That's a lesson Joan Jett is in the midst of learning. (Didn't see that one coming, did you?)

Apparently, some farmers and ranchers from the state are upset that Jett, who is a vegetarian and an animal rights activist, was chosen to perform on South Dakota's float in the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, according to the Associated Press.

"To me, it seems like a huge blunder," South Dakota Cattlemen's Association President Cory Eich told the AP. "I guess I couldn't disapprove more. I don't understand what they were thinking."

Have fun on that float, Joan.

quicklist: 2title: McKayla Maroney Inspires Costume for Woman With Bell's Palsytext: A year after Olympic gymnast McKayla Maroney made her now iconic "not impressed" face on the podium after accepting her silver medal, the expression inspired a costume for a college student struggling with an illness.

College student Leslie Barrett posted on Maroney's Facebook page that she was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy two months ago, which has caused the right side of her face to be temporarily paralyzed. She can only express emotion on the left side of her face.

At a party, someone pointed out to her that her resting face looked like Maroney's not impressed face, so she decided to work that into her Halloween costume and dress up like the Olympian.

"This has hands-down been the best costume I've ever had," Barrett wrote. "It was the first time in months I got to look like I was intentionally making a face and it has helped me deal with the slow recovery a little better."

The gymnast re-tweeted two stories and photos about Barrett.

It seems that McKayla Maroney is impressed.

quicklist: 3title: Scientists Discover World's Oldest Animal, Accidentally Kill Ittext: Researchers at Bangor University in Wales discovered the world's oldest animal, which was cool, until they accidentally killed it.

The record-holding creature was a 507-year-old bivalve mollusk, or ocean quahog, named Ming, according to the Telegraph.

It died when the scientists pried it open to count its rings. Ming was originally discovered in 2006 and thought to be 405 years old at the time, but recent studies indicated that the animal was actually 507 years old.

Not bad, Ming. You can rest in peace knowing you looked 100 years younger than you were. Impressive.

quicklist: 4title: McDonald's Frozen McRib Photo Stirs Web, Not Appetitestext: If you're still a fan of McDonald's McRib after seeing this photo, then you are a true fan.

A photo recently surfaced on Reddit identified as the frozen McRib meat is ... less than appetizing, to put it mildly.

What's usually seen as the cult favorite pork rib sandwich slathered in tangy barbecue sauce and topped with slivered onions and sliced pickles on a hoagie-style bun is completely unrecognizable in this picture trending online.

When asked to confirm the photo was indeed their iconic McRib, McDonald's released a statement, which included this explanation: "One reason our customers love the McRib is its fun and wonderful shape. Just like a burger patty is formed to be round and flat, we form the iconic McRib in the shape of traditional ribs. We then flash freeze the patty to seal in flavor and freshness, just like you freeze meat in your own freezer, before going to our restaurants.

The McRib is traditionally a winter season item so, if you're still interested, try to erase this from your memory and know it's coming soon.
