— -- A driver in a reportedly stolen semi truck led officers on a freeway chase in Southern California today, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The truck belongs to ACTenviro, an environmental and hazardous waste management firm, according to company spokesman Walter Singer.

He told ABC News today that the truck had been en route from Sunnyvale, California, to US Ecology in Nevada when it was reported stolen at 6:30 a.m. local time today.

Though a GPS tracking mechanism was deactivated when it was allegedly stolen, the truck had a secondary GPS system that the company could use to track the vehicle, according to Singer.

The contents of the 18-wheeler were "pretty mundane," he said. He said that there was a limited flammability risk on the truck but no explosives, radiological hazards or biological hazards.

Deputies with the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department initially tried to chase down the truck at 10:30 a.m. local time, and CHP officers took over the pursuit after the truck merged onto a freeway, according to Officer Brian Alvarez with CHP's inland division.

The chase ended peacefully early this afternoon, and the driver was taken into custody, Alvarez told ABC News.

ABC News' Derick Yanehiro and Scott Shulman contributed to this report.
