U.S. Military Deaths in War With Iraq

• Pvt. Kyle C. Gilbert, 20, of Brattleboro, Vt., was killed in Baghdad when Iraqi vehicle opened fire on his unit.

• Sgt. Leonard D. Simmons, 33, of New Bern, N.C., died in Mosul, Iraq, of a non-combat related cause.

• Spc. Zeferino E. Colunga, 20, of Bellville, Texas, died on Aug. 6 at Homburg University Hospital in Germany, after being evacuated to the 28th Combat Support Hospital in Iraq on Aug. 4.

• Staff Sgt. David L. Loyd, 44, of Jackson, Tenn., died in a Kuwait hospital after experiencing severe chest pains.

• Spc. Farao K. Letufuga, 20, of Pago Pago, American Samoa, died in Mosul, Iraq, after falling from the top of a building while he was performing guard duty.

• Spc. Justin W. Hebert, 20, of Arlington, Wash., was killed in Kirkuk, Iraq. Hebert was on patrol when his vehicle was struck by a rocket-propelled grenade.

• Pvt. Michael J. Deutsch, 21, of Dubuque, Iowa, was killed in Baghdad, Iraq. Deutsch was in a vehicle that was struck by an explosive device.

• Spc. James I. Lambert III, 22, of Raleigh, N.C., was killed in Baghdad, Iraq. Lambert was struck by a stray bullet fired during what was believed to be a celebratory event by local nationals.

• 1st Lt. Leif E. Nott, 24, of Cheyenne, Wyo., was killed in Belaruz, Iraq. Nott died of wounds received from hostile fire.

• Sgt. Nathaniel Hart Jr., 29, of Valdosta, Ga., died of injuries he received when his vehicle went off the road and rolled over in Tillil, Iraq.

• Spc. William J. Maher III, 35, of Yardley, Pa., was killed on in Baghdad, Iraq. Maher was in a convoy when he was injured by an improvised explosive device. Maher died of his injuries.

• Sgt. Nathaniel Hart Jr., 29, of Valdosta, Ga., died in Tillil, Iraq. Hart died of injuries he received when his vehicle went off the road and rolled over.

• Sgt. Heath A. McMillin, 29, of Canandaigua, N.Y., was killed when a patrol he was in came under attack from rocket-propelled grenade and small arms fire south of Baghdad, Iraq.

• Pfc. Jonathan M. Cheatham, 19, of Camden, Ark., was killed when a convoy he was in came under rocket-propelled grenade attack in Baghdad, Iraq.

• Sgt. Daniel K. Methvin, 22, of Belton, Texas, was killed in Baghdad, Iraq, when a grenade was thrown from a window of an Iraqi civilian hospital that he was guarding.

• Spc. Jonathan P. Barnes, 21, of Anderson, Mo., was killed in Baghdad, Iraq, when a grenade was thrown from a window of an Iraqi civilian hospital that he was guarding.

• Pfc. Wilfredo Perez Jr., 24, of Norwalk, Conn., was killed in Baghdad, Iraq, when a grenade was thrown from a window of an Iraqi civilian hospital that he was guarding.

• Cpl. Evan Asa Ashcraft, 24, of West Hills, Calif. Ashcraft was killed north of Al Hawd, Iraq, when the military convoy he was traveling in came under enemy fire.

• Pfc. Raheen Tyson Heighter, 22, of Bay Shore, N.Y. Heighter was killed north of Al Hawd, Iraq, when the military convoy he was traveling in came under enemy fire.

• Staff Sgt. Hector R. Perez, 40, of Corpus Christi, Texas. Perez was killed north of Al Hawd, Iraq, when the military convoy he was traveling in came under enemy fire.

• Sgt. Juan M. Serrano, 31, of Manati, Puerto Rico, died in Baghdad, Iraq. He was changing a tire on an M998 vehicle when it fell on him, inflicting a fatal head injury.

• Capt. Joshua T. Byers, 29, of Nevada was killed in action east of Baghdad, Iraq, when his convoy hit an explosive device.
