Jan. 31 -- Janet Reno left a Rochester hospital today, about 12 hours after she collapsed during a speech Wednesday night.

"I feel fine," Reno, 63, said as she left Strong Memorial Hospital.

Reno said today that doctors told her "it seems to be a simple thing."

The former attorney general had been speaking for about 45 minutes at a Rochester, N.Y., event when she suddenly told the audience she needed to sit down.

"You're going to have to excuse me for a minute," she said, before falling over.

She had attended a fund-raiser and a press conference before the event.

From Koresh to Elian

Reno, the nation's first female attorney general, served under President Clinton from 1993 until the end of the administration.

Her controversial turn as the nation's top law enforcer included the decision to raid the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas, to end a standoff with cult leader David Koresh. Koresh was among some 80 people, including children, killed in the assault.

She also made the decision to take Elian Gonzalez from the home of his Miami relatives, so the young Cuban boy could be repatriated to Cuba with his father, who wanted him back. The child had been taken to America by his mother, who died during the journey.

Reno has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.

She said her fainting spell would not hurt her campaign for Florida governor. Reno is one of five candidates for the Democratic nod to run against President Bush's brother, Gov. Jeb Bush.

A Miami native, Reno was elected Dade County's state attorney five times. ABCNEWS affiliate WOKR in Rochester contributed to this report.
