What's on America's Mind?

— -- "Give me your tired, your poor...." Millions of European immigrants were welcomed to America's shores with these words in the early 20th century. But as America experiences a wave of immigration from Mexico, have those words lost their meaning?

America hails itself as a welcoming "melting pot," but has always had a love-hate relationship with newcomers to the country.

This week's Ask America poll found that 43 percent of Americans support President Bush's proposal to grant amnesty to millions of Mexicans currently in the United States illegally.

What do you think? Should we adopt such a plan? In doing so, would we encourage more illegal immigration?

Also this week, visitors to ABCNEWS.com came out strongly in favor of legalizing marijuana.

Some proponents think legalizing pot would deter people from using so-called harder drugs, such as cocaine or heroin. Which side do you come down on?

In another recent Ask America poll, we asked Americans about their online shopping habits.

Our question on Internet shopping was sent to us by Zach Vincent, an electrical engineering student at Oklahoma State University. Zach has a small Web business and is interested in how the typical person thinks, feels and interacts with the Internet and online businesses and services.

As is always the case, we get more suggestions for questions than we can ask. Here are some we thought were fun or different:

*Did you prefer I Dream of Jeannie or Bewitched?

*Do you dream in color?

*Are you a morning person or a night owl?

What do you think?

Send us a question that youd like to put to the country. If we like it, well contact you and have our polling unit Ask America.
