— -- A 21-year-old survivor of the Orlando mass shooting has penned a powerful open letter to the shooter, saying that "we are stronger than your hate" and "always will be."

In the essay published to xoJane on Monday, Alejandro Francisco, Jr. described the harrowing night and everything he and the community lost, including his friend Stanley Almodovar.

But Francisco made it clear that the shooter couldn't take away one very important thing.

"Omar, you failed," he wrote. "You tried to massacre the very one thing that you can never destroy in our community. Ever. You can not take away our love. It is more powerful than anything else that exists in the world."

Francisco told ABC News today that he felt the letter was "something that people needed to hear."

"No matter how many deaths, no matter what happens, you cannot kill love," he said. "You can't."
