1. Gas Prices Dip
The average price of a gallon of gas dipped down by about a cent over the past two weeks. According to the Lundberg Survey of fuel prices, the average cost of a gallon of regular gas in the U.S. is $3.83.

2. Wildfires Burn Thousands of Acres in Washington
Lightning sparked wildfires that have burned thousands of acres of grass and forest in central Washington state. Fire officials say two popular rental cabins run by the U.S. Forest Service have been destroyed.

3. Baby Panda Dies at Washington Zoo
A baby panda born last week at the Smithsonian's National Zoo has died from unknown causes. Staff and volunteers at the zoo heard distress calls from the mother, Mei Xiang on Sunday morning and immediately performed CPR but the cub was not responsive.

4. Nepal Avalanche Kills 9
An avalanche that hit climbers on a Himalayan peak in Nepal on Sunday left at least nine dead and six missing. The avalanche hit the group at a camp at about 22,960 feet as they were preparing to climb to the summit of Mount. Manaslu, the eighth highest mountain in the world. Many of the climbers were French or German.

5. 'Homeland,' 'Modern Family' Sweep Emmys
Showtime's Homeland won Outstanding Drama Series and ABC's Modern Family took home its third consecutive award for Outstanding Comedy Series at the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday night. Homeland's Damian Lewis and Claire Danes both won acting trophies for their roles. Modern Family also scored best supporting acting Emmys for Claire Bowen and Eric Stonestreet.
