The -- -- county sheriff's department says on Friday it responded to a call about suspicious activity here at this home the home at the end of this private driveway. When sheriff's deputies knocked on the door the sole owner of the home answered and told them he had shot and killed two burglars inside his home in the basement on Thanksgiving Day 64 year old Byron David Smith told friends he was defending his home. Authorities found the bodies of seventeen year old -- -- Brady. An eighteen year old Hayley -- in Smith's basement but Eyewitness News sources tell us the two were cousins. In his statement the sheriff's office says its investigation uncovered information. That led it to charge Smith with second degree murder that Smith went beyond self defense. Those who know the retired government worker say he didn't alert authorities about the shootings right away because he panicked.
