The World War II veteran from western New York recently married the widowed mother of five. He told the Democrat and Chronicle of Rochester that they first met last year in a hall at Monroe Community Hospital, the nursing home where they both live.

After that, he began visiting her every day.

Gilbert, who is also a retired postal worker, said the couple was not allowed to share a room at the facility unless they were married.

Hartman was actually the one who proposed, and the two were married on June 6, surrounded by her extended family.
