What Are Your Hopes for the 112th Congress?

VIDEO: New members of congress are set to take center stage and shape the agenda.

Republican leaders will formally take the reins of power in the House of Representatives today, carrying with them, they say, a mandate from voters to scale back the federal government.

New Speaker of the House John Boehner will take the gavel, declaring, "The people voted to end business as usual, and today we begin carrying out their instructions."

In the Senate, a weakened Democratic majority will attempt to change chamber rules on filibusters, hoping to pare down their use to hold up legislation.
