Snipers, booby traps, and a maze of mines have hampered progress as U.S. Marines, along with British and Afghan troops push their way into the Taliban stronghold of Marja.
The third day of the offensive in southern Afghanistan has seen an uptick in fighting from Taliban fighters in certain parts of the town. U.S. forces have been particularly hard hit.
