Major Mike McCormack, left, was the first responder who found the flag that flew over the North Tower. "It was filthy, it was torn, but it had to be the most beautiful flag I'd ever seen," he told ABC News.
McCormack was heralded for his discovery. But like thousands of first responders, he soon got sick. So he and others fought for help. This year the federal government approved $50 million to treat first responders.
