Ganges River: Sacred yet toxic

Despite its beauty from afar, the water in the Ganges River at Varanasi is disgusting. It is at least 10,000 times more concentrated with disease-causing microorganisms than is standard. Every day, 100 Olympic-sized swimming pools' worth of sewage is dumped into the river.
