Scott was in Taji until Feb. 18, 2004, when a mortar exploded in the area where his unit was training. Not wearing any of his armor, Scott was thrown against a wall and broke the femur bones in his legs. His brain was shaken in his skull, leaving him with a traumatic brain injury.
