Jennings' Daughter to Run NYC Marathon

Initiative Will Benefit Lung Cancer Research

Elizabeth Jennings is running her first New York City Marathon in honor of her father, ABC News anchor Peter Jennings.

Jennings died Aug. 7 of lung cancer at his home in New York City.

She's put together a team, aptly named PJ's People, and together they're taking part in the event on Nov. 6 to raise money for lung cancer research and awareness about the disease.

Each year, 160,000 people in the United States die from lung cancer, making it the number one cause of cancer deaths in this country, but the disease receives far fewer federal research dollars compared to the other common cancers. All money raised by PJ's People will go specifically to lung cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Donations can be sent to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center/633 Third Avenue, 28th Floor/New York, NY 10017/ATTN: PJ's People.
