Linda Douglass
— -- Linda Douglass is based in the Washington, D.C. bureau of ABC News and has been the network's congressional correspondent since February, 1998. She was named ABC News's Chief Capitol Hill Correspondent in December 2000. She files reports for World News Tonight With Peter Jennings, Nightline, This Week and other ABC News broadcasts.
In 2002, Douglass was the principal correspondent covering the Enron scandal. During the attacks of September 11, 2001, she was one of the only reporters who chronicled the panic and governmental crisis on Capitol Hill, later producing an exclusive report: "Congress in Chaos." In 2000, she spent three months on John McCain's presidential campaign bus, "The Straight Talk Express," filing daily reports for all ABC News broadcasts. During the 2000 general election campaign following each Presidential debate, she conducted interviews with focus groups for ABC specials.
In 1998, Douglass covered the impeachment trial of President Clinton. In January 1997 she was named the ABC News Justice Department correspondent, where she was the primary reporter covering the campaign finance investigation of President Clinton.
Before joining ABC News, Douglass covered politics and general assignment stories for CBS News. While at CBS, she was the lead reporter on the Clinton health plan. Douglass also reported for the CBS News political unit, where she established a feature focusing on campaign finance entitled "Follow the Dollar."
Prior to joining CBS News in 1993 as a Washington-based correspondent, Douglass was an award-winning political reporter for KNBC-TV in Los Angeles. During her tenure as Political Editor at KNBC, she provided in-studio analysis on election nights and anchored the award-winning weekly interview program, "News Conference." In 1992, she traveled the country covering the presidential campaign and political conventions.
Douglass was the Political Editor at KCBS-TV in Los Angeles from 1983-1985. She also served as co-anchor of KCBS's 6:00 p.m., Sunday newscast in 1985. She traveled the country extensively as the station's lead reporter covering the 1984 presidential campaign. Douglass was a Los Angeles-based correspondent for CBS News from 1981-1983. She was KCB's Political Editor from 1975-1980 and traveled for months covering the presidential campaigns of Ronald Reagan and Jerry Brown. Douglass began her career as a researcher on the assignment desk at KCBS in 1973.
Ms. Douglass is the recipient of numerous awards, including the 2000 National Press Foundation's Everett Dirksen Award, for her coverage of Congress, and the 1990 Broadcast Journalist of the Year, from the Society of Professional Journalists.
A native of California, she holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the University of Southern California. Ms. Douglass and her husband, John Phillips, have one daughter, Katie.
