Guess what, that song has become this week's big hit on itunes? Abc's david muir with the story and the songwriter. Reporter: It all began with that pencil in his hand. At 96 fred had just lost his love of 75 years, lorraine. He was determined to put his love to words with a love song. How did I meet lorraine? She was a car hop at the a & w root beer stand. And she brought the trays to the car. Reporter: The year was 1938. Well, she was the prettiest girl I ever saw. I fell in love with her right there. Reporter: In the weeks after his loss, he read an ad in the paper about a contest. A recording studio in east peoria, illinois, asking readers for youtube videos of their own song. The winner would get their song produced. We received a letter from a 96-year-old man. Reporter: In his letter, fred wrote, I can't sing, I'm not a musician, but they loved his lyrics. He began to cry and said, why would you do this for me? They told him they were going to record his song, and he tried to show them how it goes. ♪ Reporter: They found a singer and went into the recording studio and told us today how nervous they were when they gave fred those headphones. Tell me when you're ready. Yeah, okay. ♪ Sweet lorraine ♪ ♪ I wish we could do all the good times all over again ♪ Reporter: Overwhelmed. He still is tonight, hitting number five on itunes tonight. His grandson telling us today, he asked the family who is this justin timberlake? I just passed him on itunes.
