to the two men who were the suspects in the bombing. That is a snapshot, after the bomb blast. You can see the suspect, who is still the object of the manhunt, in the white hat. S fleeing the scene. So, we wanted to know more about these two young men and all day long, we've been learning what brought them to the united states as children and what about the fact that they seem to be on their way to earning a piece of the american dream and then, something happened. All day long, investigators have been trying to unravel that mystery and abc's senior justice corresndent pierre thomas has been talking to them. He joins us now. Pierre? Reporter: Diane, until the tragic events of this week, its seemed like those young men were living truly the american dream. Immigrants from the russian caucaus, the brothers came with their parents to the u.S. As children seeking refuge status. The boys thrived, attending top boston high schools. Their mother refuses to believe her sons are murderers. My two sons are really innocent. Reporter:TAMERLAN, 26, A A champion gold glove boxer, he dreamed of competing for america in the olympics. Dzhokhar, 19, became a u.S. Citizejust last year, IRONICALLY ON SEPTEMBER 11th. A one-time lifeguard, he was an all-state wrestler and a scholarship student at the university of massachusetts- dartmouth. He was a wonderful kid. I said, "please, please, don't make this be him." Reporter: At first glance, nothing in their american experience seems to explain why they took this walk to the boston marathon monday, and allegedly did this -- dzhokhar stood near 8-year-old martin richard and allegedly left the backback bomb that killed the child, two others and injured nearly 200 more. Never ever would imagine that somehow the children of my brother would be associated with that. So, it is atrocity. Reporter: But there is some evidence of turmoil. The older brother, tamerlan, was charged in cambridge with beating a former girlfriend. The tough guy boxes pictures disappeared. Replaced on his youtube channel why they demonize the terrorists. Reporter: Their uncle believes the american dream turned dark. Being losers, hatred towards those that were able to settle themselves. Reporter: One of dzhokhar's college friends believes the little brother was influenced by the older. I'm assuming his brother had most of the planning done for him. And pierre, I want you to tell me about the conversation with the mother today, the possibility they were tracking at least the older son? Reporter: Well, we have confirmed from the fbi that the fbi did, in fact, interview the older brother about two years ago at the request of a foreign government. Diane, they found nothing derogatory and closed the file.
