Transcript for 'Game of Thrones' Author George R.R. Martin
Finally tonight, the question so many of you get on a Monday morning -- did you see last night's "Game of thrones"? Where it all started, a little boy looking out his window. It all started in this new Jersey neighborhood. A little boy, all he could see were five blocks. Staten island, a beautiful sight because it would become this. King's landing on "Game of thrones." The HBO hit seen every week. Do you remember looking out at Staten island? We were poor. Didn't even own a car. Never went anywhere. But our living room windows in our apartment looked directly out on the water. I would see the lights across the way, and they were like a magical realm to me. Five books so far, in the middle of the sixth. Is seventh will be the last. Families at battle. All of it born in the mind of that little boy. Even the wedding, everyone wore red. I received this tweet, and was wondering the same thing. Have you been to some awful weddings in your time? No one has ever died. King Geoffrey, the spoiled teenager that ruled with cruelty. When you look back to that little boy, was there a little king Geoffrey on the street? A little punk? There were a few. I was a shy kid. There were always bullies in school that made life miserable. He was partly made up of all the bill bullies in my life. How did you come up with the strong woman roles? Well, there are all kinds of women. I just try to write individual characters. Being male or female is almost secondary to, they're people. It would be cool to play Jon snow, say, who's much more of a classic hero. Everybody wants to be a classic hero, right? This some, in Santa Fe, where the families rule here, too. I love the TV show. I have to get out there and do a cam cameo. I was on the original pilot, but it was left on the cutting room floor. But I'll sneak in on some other episode. You heard it here first. A cameo from George. Last one, what would you say to that little kid looking out at Staten island? You will get out. But I still love it. So, we choose George R.R. Martin.
