It is getting took a lot like Christmas in some surprising places tonight parts of the southwest are getting hammered by a blizzard. In New Mexico schools and a major interstate closed stranding motorists. The weather is now moving east bringing cold rains and snow expected to snarl traffic. The storm is now bringing snow to eight states including here in Colorado but around the country it's what's not happening that's getting so much attention. Last year America got hammered with snow this year things are very different. At Christmas roughly -- Half the country was covered. Today only about a quarter reais ski resorts in New England have been forced to close but lack of snow along with severe drought in some parts of the southwest can be partially blamed on La Nina.
