Transcript for A Search and Rescue Team Is Called in to Rescue a Dog From a Steep Mountain in Utah
Finally tonight, Mary the beagle who clearly needed convincing. Here's linsey Davis. Reporter: A treacherous climb. Come down to that ledge. Reporter: In freezing temperatures. If I'm going to slip, it's going to be here. Reporter: Volunteers with the Utah county search and rescue hike half a mile up steep terrain, risking their lives -- Hang tight. We're almost there to you. Reporter: For man's best friend. Good dog! Reporter: They find the foxhound, Mary, on a narrow ledge with a 60-foot drop. Come on. Reporter: Despite the lure of treats, Mary is skittish. We thought this dog has been overnight on the coldest night of the year. It's going to be hungry, it's going to be happy to see us. Reporter: But this pooch perched above city lights couldn't be coaxed. Not even by the passage of another sunset. I'm just worried she is going to jump off the cliff if I get close. Reporter: So they leave treats before retreating. But the cliffhanger doesn't end there. In a bit of a mysterious twist, Mary somehow made it back to her homeowners that night. Giving us all a bit of "Pause." Linsey Davis, ABC news, New York. Welcome home, Mary. Thanks for watching on a Wednesday night. I'm David Muir. See you back here tomorrow.
