Transcript for Searchers May be One Step Closer to Finding Flight 370
Now to the search for the passenger jet that vanished with 239 people onboard. News that the oil slick investigators hope was from flight 370 has turned out to be a false lead. Here's the map. The serzoneme. More than 40 square miles wide. All in the area where the signals picked up days ago. ABC news has learned that the unmanned submarine might have detected a clue that it is back in the ocean. I want to bring in John nance. When you hear how quickly they sent this drone back to the same area, what does it tell you? It was significant whatever they saw. And in order to be able to break the search pattern and put it back in the same place, they saw something compelling. You're right. This unmanned submarine, getting it down there is not quick. No. It's agonizing in terms of time. Two hours to get down. Three miles. 16 hours on station. Two hours back up. Then they have got to pull it back out. We're talking about depths of 12 empire state buildings? 16,000 some odd feet. That's about right. Tremendous pressure down there. This is a hostile environment and zero light. There's a waiting game. No real time information coming back from that underwater drone. That's right. We tend to think of everything being instant transmission these days. It isn't communicating with the ship. They have to pull it out of the water. Take the instrument package out and debrief everything before we know what it was tt it might have seen down there. John nance with us. Thank you. And on this holy Thursday
