If you thought it couldn't get any stranger in American politics to comedians are ready to shake things up Stephen Comair. And his pal Jon Stewart -- -- just announced. He will explore running for president and Stewart will oversee his political action committee but their real target for defeat. All the big money they say is taking over American elections here's ABC's John -- Even over launch and lizard thicket restaurant in Columbia, South Carolina you can't get away from them. Most of the nasty political ads in South Carolina are not being run by the campaigns. But -- brand new force in politics outside groups called super -- now into the fray new candidate with his own super pac. Comedian Stephen -- I -- forming an exploratory committee. -- ground work for -- possible candidacy for the president of the united states of South Carolina. And. But behind the jokes is a serious point super -- you don't have to follow the rules. Candidates can only accept donations of 2500 dollars per person super pacs can accept millions from anybody. Thanks to the supreme court's recent decision Citizens United. Now these big money players have taken over. In South Carolina the groups have spent seven million dollars on ads more than twice as much as the candidates themselves. Check out Newt Gingrich. Super pac supporting him has spent seven times as march. As his own campaign the one -- super pacs must follow they need to be independent of the candidates they support. But even that is a joke the super pac supporting Mitt Romney was started by the lawyer and political director of his 2008 campaign. The spokesman for the -- Gingrich super pac is the longtime spokesman for Newt Gingrich. When Stephen -- -- announced his plans last night he turned over his super -- to his buddy Jon Stewart.
